Start with a small task that changes nothing, such as summarising a document.\n\nThese steps follow xAI's [getting started guide](https://docs.x.ai/grok-bot/get-started), checked on October 27, 2026.\n\n## 1. Check you have access\n\nYou need a paid individual Cursor plan or Cursor Teams, an individual SuperGrok, SuperGrok Plus, or SuperGrok Heavy subscription, or a seat on a self-serve Grok Business plan. Accounts on Cursor's Legacy Privacy Mode must switch to a supported data setting first.\n\n## 2. Install the app\n\nDownload the desktop app from [x.ai/bot](https://x.ai/bot).\n\n- **Mac:** choose the Apple silicon or Intel download, open the disk image, and drag **Grok Bot** to **Applications**.\n- **Windows:** choose the x64 or Arm64 download, run the installer, and open Grok Bot from the Start menu.\n- **Linux:** open **More downloads** and choose the .deb, .rpm, or AppImage build.\n- **Phone:** get it from the [App Store](https://apps.apple.com/app/id6794501026) (iOS 18 or later) or [Google Play](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ai.x.grok.bot) (Android 9 or later).\n\nNot sure which Mac download you need? Open **Apple menu → About This Mac**. A **Chip** line means Apple silicon; a **Processor** line means Intel. The full list is in [Grok Bot supported platforms](/academy/grok-bot-supported-platforms).\n\n## 3. Sign in\n\nChoose **Sign in** on the welcome screen, finish in the browser, and return to the app. If your access comes from SuperGrok, link it to your Cursor account when asked. On desktop that is **Settings → Usage & Billing → Get Access with Grok**. On a phone, sign in with **Log In or Sign Up** and link with **Link Grok Account**.\n\n## 4. Give your first Bot one job\n\nAfter a short intro the app creates a Bot called **Grok Bot** and opens a chat. In your first message, give it one main job and ask it to remember how it should work. Click its name at the top of the chat to rename it.\n\nTell it what needs your approval too. xAI suggests narrow **Ask first** rules for sending, publishing, deleting, buying, and changing live systems.\n\n## 5. Run a safe first task\n\nType in the box or use voice input (**Cmd/Ctrl+D** on desktop). A good request says the outcome, the sources, the limits, what to hand back, and when to check with you.\n\nxAI's suggested first task needs no connected apps: attach a document and ask for five bullets with dates, decisions, and open questions, with sources, and without changing the file.\n\n## 6. Make it a habit\n\nOnce a task works, try it again on real input. When the steps are stable, save them as a skill, test it on one real task, then put it on a schedule. [How to teach Grok Bot a task](/academy/how-to-teach-grok-bot-a-task) and [safe routines and approvals](/academy/safe-grok-bot-routines-and-approvals) cover that step.\n\n## Is Grok Bot not working after setup?\n\nIf it is stuck on **Starting your computer**, keep the app open until it finishes. If it stalls, retry, restart the app, check for an update, then use **Update Bot's Computer**. [Grok Bot not working](/academy/grok-bot-troubleshooting) has the full order.\n\n> **Faster start:** skip the blank page and [add a ready-made Bot template](/grok-bot-templates), then give it one real task.\n","steps":[{"name":"Check you have access","text":"You need a paid individual Cursor plan or Cursor Teams, an individual SuperGrok, SuperGrok Plus, or SuperGrok Heavy subscription, or a seat on a self-serve Grok Business plan.
