> **Direct answer:** Grok Bot is an app for keeping AI teammates, called Bots. Each Bot has a name, a job, and memory. It works on a cloud computer with a browser, files, and a terminal. Work keeps going when your laptop is closed.

The [official Grok Bot overview](https://docs.x.ai/grok-bot/overview) describes Bots you can keep around: AI teammates with names, jobs, and context that compounds over time. A Bot finishes work in your real tools rather than handing you a chat draft.

## What is a Grok Bot?

A Grok Bot, or Bot, is one named, persistent agent with one job. You might keep a research Bot, an inbox Bot, and an operations Bot. Each keeps its own conversations, preferences, and role memory across sessions.

A Bot is not a chat prompt. You set it up with a message, not a workflow builder, and it keeps the job until you change it.

## What can a Grok Bot do?

- **Use a computer:** browse websites, read and write files, and run commands on a cloud computer.
- **Use connected apps:** work through connectors where they exist and the computer for everything else.
- **Learn a task:** where **Teach a task** is available, you show it a browser task once and it saves that path as a skill.
- **Run routines:** repeat a saved skill on a schedule.
- **Work as a team:** Bots can run in parallel, message each other, and share context in group chats.

See [what people use Grok Bot for](/academy/what-people-use-grok-bot-for) for real jobs with a safe first task for each.

## Where does a Grok Bot do its work?

On a cloud computer, not your own machine. Every Bot on one account shares that computer, including its files and logins. Running commands on your own Mac or PC needs local access switched on, and even then the Bot asks you each time by default. Read [Does Grok Bot use your computer?](/academy/grok-bot-cloud-computer-local-access-and-security) for the details.

## Who can use Grok Bot?

xAI's [FAQ](https://docs.x.ai/grok-bot/faq) lists these ways in:

- Any paid individual Cursor plan, or the Cursor Teams plan.
- An individual SuperGrok, SuperGrok Plus, or SuperGrok Heavy subscription linked to the account.
- A seat on a self-serve Grok Business plan.
- Enterprise access is rolling out and varies by organisation.

Each plan includes weekly usage. Read [Grok Bot plans and pricing](/academy/grok-bot-plans-pricing-and-usage) for how usage works.

## Is Grok Bot the same as Grok?

No. Grok is the chat assistant on grok.com and X. Grok Bot keeps named teammates with a computer and routines. Grok Build makes software. Read [Grok Bot vs Grok vs Grok Build](/academy/grok-bot-vs-grok-vs-grok-build) for which one fits a job.

## What can't Grok Bot do?

It does not get around site rules. Some websites block automated access. A Bot hands passwords, two-factor codes, CAPTCHAs, and payments back to you instead of working around them. And one feature is regional: xAI says tagging @bot on X is not in every region yet.

## How do I start?

Install the app, sign in, and give your first Bot one job. [How to use Grok Bot](/academy/how-to-use-grok-bot) walks through the first ten minutes. Or [add a ready-made template](/grok-bot-templates) and try it on a real task.
